Esparreguera
The thousand-year-old town of Esparreguera was Capital of Catalan Culture in 2005. Its architectural heritage is rich, and offers interesting areas such as a visit to the old town, with numerous stately homes. It has the second tallest bell tower in all of Catalonia, at 63 meters, with magnificent views of Montserrat and the Llobregat. And also the Colonia Sedó stands out, an example of the first textile colonies of the 19th century.
Its natural environment is ideal for outdoor activities, being one of the gateways to the Montserrat Natural Park. Regarding traditions, it stands out especially for the representations of La Passió, one of the most important scenic events in Catalonia.
La Passió d'Esparreguera is a show with great dramatic and technical complexity where the large number of actors representing the scenes, the spectacular scenographic changes, the live music performed by an orchestra and a choir make this event a unique theater production, where up to 1700 spectators can attend, and manages to convey to the current viewer the essence of characters with two thousand years of history.
It is represented in 37 scenes divided into two parts: the first part in the morning and the second in the afternoon. This structure, rare in today's theater, turns The Passion of Esparreguera into an unforgettable theatrical day.
The sum of the ensemble, from characters, more than four hundred extras and people, the orchestra, the choir, stage equipment, lighting and sound, attention to the spectator, those in charge of costumes and make-up, maintenance, administration... (nearly a thousand people), allow us to give continuity to this cultural heritage. Not forgetting the loyal audience, more than 15,000 people every year.
