Sant Joan Despí

Sant Joan Despí has origins dating back to ancient times, where Bronze Age remains have been found. However, it was not until the 2nd century BC that a small Iberian-Roman settlement was formed. During the Roman period, linked to the founding of Barcino, the area was transformed, and several villas and large farmhouses dedicated to agriculture were established.

In this municipality, we find several 20th-century Modernist buildings, among which those by Jujol stand out. He was one of the most important creators of this style, closely linked to Sant Joan Despí, the municipality of which he was municipal architect. A disciple and collaborator of Gaudí, he shaped magical worlds with his fascinating ability to transform space and matter into a fascinating reality. Windows, galleries, and roofs are transformed, in his hands, into symbolic representations such as a cloud, a mushroom, or an egg.

An itinerary allows you to admire his work in the municipality, including a guided tour of Can Negre, the Torre de la Cruz, the Torre Jujol, and the Casa Cebrià Camprubí, among others.

Sant Joan Despí has numerous green areas and parks, some as large as Fontsanta Park and the 15,000 m2 Parque del Mil·lenari.

The city offers a wide range of activities throughout the year, particularly in summer, where the highlights include cinema, dancing, and shows for the whole family on July weekends in Fontsanta Park. The local festival, on August 29th, features activities such as habaneras, the correfoc (fire run), and a gathering of cava collectors.

The central studios of TV3 are also located in this municipality.
