Castelldefels Beach
Castelldefels Beach is a long stretch of fine golden sand located approximately 18 km south of the city of Barcelona, between two distinct natural environments: the Llobregat River Delta, with its wetlands and reed beds, and the limestone massif of the Garraf Natural Park.
Although it appears to be one continuous beach measuring 4,840 metres in length and an average width of 100 metres, it is actually made up of three beaches, each named after the neighbourhood where it is located:
-
La Pineda Beach: Located in the northern part of the municipality, in the La Pineda neighbourhood, with a length of 2,090 metres.
-
Lluminetes Beach: The section of Castelldefels Beach located in the Lluminetes neighbourhood, measuring 770 metres in length.
-
Baixador Beach: The southernmost beach in Castelldefels. Its name refers to the nearby railway station ("baixador" means "railway halt" in Catalan). It borders the municipality of Sitges and is 1,980 metres long.
Certifications and Awards
These beaches have received several quality certifications and awards, including the Q for Tourist Quality, Biosphere Certification, UNE-EN ISO 9001, and Ecoplayas. These distinctions reflect the municipality's commitment to excellence in management, environmental sustainability and the continuous improvement of the services provided.
In addition, Baixador Beach and Lluminetes Beach have been awarded the Blue Flag, an internationally recognised environmental award that acknowledges sustainable and environmentally responsible beach management. It certifies compliance with strict standards regarding legal requirements, bathing water quality, accessibility, coastal protection, environmental management, safety, services and facilities, as well as environmental information and sustainability education.
