Santa Maria de Montsió Monastery

Share:

The Monastery of Santa Maria de Montsió is an architectural complex that includes a 14th-century Gothic cloister, the convent church, and the modernist house of Can Casanovas, recently acquired by the Esplugues de Llobregat City Council.

The Monastery of Santa Maria de Montsió is notable for its 14th-century Gothic cloister, a deconsecrated church, and various outbuildings that were inhabited by Dominican nuns until 2022.

This monastery has a unique history, marked by several relocations, from its original location on Montsió Street in Barcelona to its move to Esplugues in 1947, when the community rebuilt the cloister stone by stone in the Can Casanovas farmhouse.

The estate also includes the Can Casanovas farmhouse, an original 15th-century building, remodeled in the modernist style between 1902 and 1903 by the architect Antoni Maria Gallissà.

This building has a garden and a water reservoir for irrigation, which will contribute to expanding the municipality's green space.
